My First Award: The Liebster Award

Guess what?! Jessica from Squishy Face Collection has given me the Liebster Award! Thank you Jessica!!! The Liebster award  is given by new bloggers to other new bloggers. There are some bloggers that think it’s just a chain letter and shouldn’t be recognized, but I love it because someone took time to recognize me when there are so many other blogs out there to choose from. This means I have had an impact on at least one person! It is always great to hear ‘good job!’ every now and then, especially since we can be so hard on ourselves and our work. And, I made a new friend! It also allows you, my readers, insight into parts of my life that I may not have shared with you before.

Here are the rules of the Liebster Award:

  1. Post your award to your blog.
  2. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link their blog.
  3. Answer the 10 questions you were given by the person who nominated you
  4. Nominate a small group(1-10) of other new bloggers you’ve discovered
  5. Create 10 new questions for the nominees

Answering My Questions:

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your blog.

I am a wife, a mom, an entrepreneur, a great friend, and God-loving woman. I do it all: cook, clean, organize, write, give advice, and make sure my 3 children stay alive LOL. It is not always graceful, but it is always under His grace.

2. How often you make a blog post?
At this time I post every Monday. However, the goal is to eventually do three posts per week. I plan on increasing gradually. So the next step is to do Mondays and Wednesdays. But for right now you can expect something new every Monday.

3. Where did you get the idea for your blog?
My girlfriends were the first to get me thinking about blogging seriously. I give a lot of advice when it comes to mothering, relationships and business. I am happy to do it with my friends but I wasn’t quite sure I wanted to do it for the world. I can be harsh with my words… not because I’m trying to be mean but because I am passionate about a woman’s ability to do what she sets her mind to. Over time I grew in wisdom on how to phrase my answers so they could be constructive and well-received without being hurtful. So, when I had a few more friends saying that they couldn’t wait for my blog/book on mothering it sparked my attention.

4. Is there someone or something that inspires your blog?

There are two main inspirations for my blog. The first is my Lord and Savior. God has helped me make it through a lot in my life. I truly owe my life to Him. I wanted to show other women how amazing life can be when they use their faith. When I say amazing that doesn’t mean you won’t go through anything, you just need to realize you have help in your battles.

My other inspiration, which really gave me a boost in launching, was seeing hurt mothers. There was a period of time where all I saw in the news and social media was moms killing themselves or their children. Being a mother myself, I know how tough the job can be. But I also know how rewarding it can be when you change your mindset. I want to reach someone before they take such drastic measures. I want them to know that they are not alone but with the right strategies and help they can do this. We all go through tough times. Let’s learn how to make it out from each other. We are Proverbs 31 women, and we can do it because we were made for this. If my blog saves at least one person and  makes no money, I will still consider it a success.

5. What is your goal with your blog? (Do you plan to monetize? Do you want to write a book? etc..)
Yes and Yes! Although this blog is meant to be inspirational and a help to many I do plan on monetizing it. I have a few books in mind already and can’t wait to get them out. I think they will help many on the perspective of mothering and different trials you may encounter in life.

6. How do you find time for your blog?
You don’t find time for blogging; you CREATE it. With 3 kids, a husband, and volunteering I wasn’t sure I could have time for anything else. I had to cut some of my nightly ‘me’ time to make this happen. I was sad, but it was something I gladly gave for the blogs sake.

7. What is the most crucial element in blogging, in your opinion?
CONSISTENCY!! OMG! Seriously, I learned the hard way. I officially launched my blog for New Years with a 2015 goals post. It was a huge hit. I posted a few more posts that month. Then I went on vacation for a week and it killed my blog. It wasn’t the vacation that did it. It was me coming back from vacay physically but staying on vacay mentally for 2-3 months. All that traction and progress disappeared. I remember reading everywhere that consistency was key to blog success but I never thought it was that important until my blog flopped and I basically had to start from scratch.

8. Do you have any other hobbies?

I have developed a joy for baking. I don’t know where it came from. I used to be afraid of baking until one day I decided to bake a cake. Ever since then I have been baking cakes, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc. Right now it’s not from scratch but some of the box stuff. I do eventually want to bake from scratch.  I want to try my hands at some more complex baking too, like Haitian patties. If they go well you can bet you’ll see it here on the blog.

9. What is a new skill that you would like to learn?
I would love to learn how to sew. It seems like it would be something very relaxing to do. In my mind, I am a DIY guru. Unfortunately, that has not come to fruition yet. I learn relatively quickly so I think I can pick it up. Really it’s a matter of finding the time. It is definitely on my goal list for next year.

10. What is your favorite quote?

My favorite one right now would  have to be:

Liebster Award

“When life gives you lemons make lemon cake & sell it!”-Stan The Woman

I love this quote because it embodies how we should treat our trials. It’s about making the best out of what you have and being proactive. Instead of sitting around and sulking (sour lemons), you turn the negative into a positive. You make something happen with what you have. Don’t worry about who may have the same thing or possibly something better. Just because they have it doesn’t mean they know how to use it, so don’t focus on others. Learn how to use what you have, make the best lemon cake ever, then sell it to someone so you can buy more lemons to make more cake.
